Valerie Barkowski
Valerie Barkowski has the essence of style
Her beautiful name arouses curiosity and lends itself well to a stylish fine linen and embroidery line. And we are so happy that her passion and talent lies in that area! Valerie Barkowski of Belgian origin and multicultural background settled in 1997 at Marrakech. She gets her inspiration for interior design from her travels around the world and through Morocco. Continuing to discover the world is central to her creative process. By visiting the north of Morocco and the encounters with the Berber women from the Rif Mountains, the enthusiasm arouses to further elaborate her textile sketches. The women of this region wear Reed hats with colored pompoms and tassels which are also processed on their immaculate white blouses. Especially the colorful flosses in combination with the white textile have become her trademark. She has developed her line of bed linen and towels called V. Barkowski and a year later she opened her shop in the medina of Marrakech near Dar el Bacha. More than 20 years later she has managed to keep her style because she is not sensitive to fashion trends. This style can be summarized as timeless, authentic, elegant, and luxurious. Her taste in interior design means that she receives assignments for styling advice for showrooms, shops and she has even designed a furniture line for Galerie Lafayette in Paris. Valerie Barkowski is an icon in her field and her beautifully embroidered bed linen, towel textiles, and her approach to design are very much appreciated worldwide!

We are also touched by her taste! A visit to her beautiful store shows high-quality and luxurious fabrics and the possibility to add bed and towel textiles. The customer’s desire has convinced us to include the essence of style in our rooms to target. Our linens at Riad Orange are made from crisp white cotton and finished with a stylish orange embroidery pattern. You will sleep wonderfully relaxed like a baby! When entering her shop you are embraced by the feeling of serenity. You will leave the souk streets behind for a moment and you will be captivated by the beauty of her products in an oasis of tranquility. The walls are painted gray with Tadelakt, which makes the white textiles look beautiful and even more appealing to the imagination. The decor of her shop shows her soul and reflects her vision of styling. The atmosphere is intimate. Beautifully styled beds capture the imagination in her shop. The fine linen and embroidery line is made by hand in a studio about 20 minutes outside Marrakech. Here local women work who are very fond of the art of the needle and thread work with her. All special details are designed by hand and are precision work. The choice of material is high-quality cotton that will last for years and the special details as floss or embroidery will not discolor, peel off, and are machine washable. A timeless souvenir of your visit to Marrakech! The V. Barkowski Store is located just outside the trendy north of the Medina with many attractions and where the famous Max and Jan Marrakech restaurant is located. Here you can have a delicious meal on its roof terrace! Another tip to do is to explore the city by bike. For a fun bike tour, we recommend Pikala accompanied by a guide.
